Youth Conservation Summit 2023

A virtual workshop series for students in grades 7 — 12 and beyond!

Attention students in grades 7 - 12 and beyond—you're invited to a unique opportunity to learn about climate change and how to advocate for your future! Join Audubon for a free virtual Youth Climate Summit workshop series to learn about climate science and create change in your school and community through a Climate Action Plan. This 4 session program will take place on March 7, 9, 14, 16 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, EST. 

Brought to you by Constitution Marsh Audubon Center and Sanctuary and Audubon New York, this interactive conference will allow students to explore climate change, its impacts, and community solutions. Participants will work in teams to design their own Climate Action Plans to put to work in their schools and communities. Through science exploration, action planning, and interactive workshops, students will gain a greater understanding of climate change and how to make a difference while engaging in a peer-to-peer education environment.

The Youth Climate Summit is open to ALL school cohorts, afterschool, and other extracurricular groups. We also welcome individual students to attend.

  • Open to ALL middle and high school aged students grades 7-12
  • Pre-registration is required through a school advisor using this online registration form

Youth Leadership

In order for the Summit to be youth-led, Audubon formed a Youth Leaders working committee, made up of students who are committed to environmental issues centered around climate change and conservation action in their communities. These Youth leaders advise staff in its efforts to engage students in the Youth Climate Summit, serving as ambassadors to their communities, and participating as a leader in the Youth Climate Summit.

Climate Action Plans

The Climate Action Plans (CAPs) vary, depending on each student and their community. Some examples of potential projects include:

  • Doing a carbon and energy audit of a school campus,
  • Organizing a school event (or events!) with "green" practices,
  • Creating a "no-mow" zone in their community,
  • Promoting a relevant local proclamation,
  • An individual student research project,
  • ...and more!
